The third and final instalment of this gripping trilogy. Will the war finally come to an end?
Leaning against the tree to which she was tied, she no longer knew how long night had lasted. The men who had captured them were gathered a short distance away in a small clearing, sitting around a fire of burning branches that gave off a thick, nauseating smoke. They had lit it to keep warm and heat up their meal of tinned food. Perhaps the foul smell came from that.
Including the teenager who had been left to guard Deborah, there were six of them. No one had offered her anything to eat. She had received only a little water, and even that she had had to beg for. Their weapons were a motley collection: a few hunting rifles, machetes and baseball bats. A gang of looters of the very worst kind.
